Portland Snails

If you're special enough to have found a snail, please tell me about how you found him/her, where s/he's at now, and any interesting details of his/her/your adventure.

When you look snails up on NPR, you'll find a review of The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating; it's the memoir of a sick woman gaining inspiration from a gifted snail. You'll also find an article about adapting a snail shell into "high-tech body armor" and an article about how snails on meth have slightly better memories. I'm doubting Anna knew any of this when she created and shared her snail pattern. I, personally, just thought they were adorable. Still, it is a good reminder that one creature can fulfill a limitless number of purposes.

From left to right:

Stewie Stu Stuart, Lily Lil Lilith, Manny Man Manuel, Sammy Sam Samson,
Vinnie Mel Melvin, Patty Pat Patrick, & Lenny Len Leonard

These snails are being scattered around Portland during my boyfriend and my first week in Portland. They have notes which read, "Hello! My name is _______, and I left my brother/sister snail in Boulder, CO. Would you show me around?"

  2. After weeks and weeks, I'm finally less cranky. We moved into an apartment near Reed in June of this year. The complex has a pool, so the twins (now 11) were down by the main building for most of the summer. One rainy dusk, my boy found Stu by the ever flowing fountain across from the pool gate! A needed dose of fun. Thank you. And, I really do work for a Portland based yarn retail/wholesale company. The owner really liked your blog. You are more then welcome to swing on by to meet the crew. kkw

  3. Thanks! It always makes my day when people actually respond, and you've put in at least twice that effort. I'd love to stop by some time. Where are you located?

    1. Hi there wonderful crafty personette! I discovered Lenny in a tree at Reed College back in August. I was wandering around on my second day of my freshman year of college and I decided to climb a tree to introspect. To my surprise I found the tree already occupied by Lenny. Thanks for the gift- I see it as an omen for the wonderful months that were to come. Wish I had contacted you earlier! Enjoy the summer-

      A Thankful Reedie
