Turkey

Alas, it is HIGHLY unlikely that the person who finds this guy will also find this blog. I left a note but forgot to write the site. I guess that's what happens when things are rushed.


Happy Thanksgiving!!!!


In a folklore class I once took, my professor told the class turkey wasn't associated with Thanksgiving until sometime around or after the 1920s. People still used to feast, but the meal options varied a lot more form house to house. It must have been quite the marketing scheme because who doesn't automatically connect Turkey with Thanksgiving nowadays? Hannah's turkey pattern is prefaced with a plea for a vegetarian celebration of the holiday. While I did eat turkey this year, the recipes on her blog have caught my interest. I might not be changing my eating habits entirely, but a few more vegetarian meals must be at least a bit of a win, right?

I left Gatsby in the bottom of a vending machine at a rest-stop on the way to my Thanksgiving celebration. It seemed like an excellent way to celebrate America: Crocheted turkey, reference a great American novel, leave turkey in vending machine on the day Americans feast. To be honest though, I left him in the vending machine, because it was the only place safe from the rain. I do not remember exactly what the note said, and I only have this picture taken with my cell phone. :/ I'll try to be more put together with the next drop. :D

Augustine the Hippo

This semi-aquatic kreation was crocheted from Kristie's pattern. It was originally intended for H.U.B.'s Biketobeerfest. Unfortunately, I arrived too late to successfully leave him. (I tried, but it was just too dark and too rainy for him to be safely left where someone might find him.) Now, he will just have to find a new landing spot.

He was left with a note that read, "Hello! My name is Augustine the Hippo. I'm an easy-going, fun-lovin' sort of guy. Do you want wanna chill?"

I got busy and was a bad philanthropic crafty giver, so I just dropped Augustine off today, October 26, 2011. I left him near one of Full Sail's breweries.

Portland Snails

 If you're special enough to have found a snail, please tell me about how you found him/her, where s/he's at now, and any interesting details of his/her/your adventure.



When you look snails up on NPR, you'll find a review of The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating; it's the memoir of a sick woman gaining inspiration from a gifted snail. You'll also find an article about adapting a snail shell into "high-tech body armor" and an article about how snails on meth have slightly better memories. I'm doubting Anna knew any of this when she created and shared her snail pattern. I, personally, just thought they were adorable. Still, it is a good reminder that one creature can fulfill a limitless number of purposes.

Three-Horn

Before scientists John Scannella and Jack Horner decided that triceratops were young torosaurus, Jennifer Down Under created the Baby Triceratops. I have recreated this dinosaur with yellow Baby Cloud yarn as a tribute to the triceratops and to my childhood. S/he should be a cuddly companion for whomever finds him/her.

This dinosaur was left on a hearth in Flagstaff with a note that read, "Hey there! I'm a Three-Horn, and I'm on a great adventure. I lost my companions somewhere along the way. Would you be my pal?"

Zandor

I was left at Webster Lake in Northglenn. I was sitting on a bench at the east entrance of the park.

Turtle

Lore generally portrays turtles as slow creatures, but, by mildly altering Kristie's pattern, I have crocheted a turtle with quick intellect and the desire for an exhilarating life. He will be someone's four-leaf clover on St. Patrick's Day and thereafter.

As the songs says, "All we need is love". Well, hugs couldn't hurt either! Scientists have engineered the very first hug-bots, to spread the love! So every time you squeeze your hug-bot, don't forget to squeeze someone you love too! May Hugs Abound!

These little guys were left at "The Armory at Brighton: Cultural Center" with a note saying "Hello, We are out here looking for a new home to protect. We are better than the best guard dog, I promise! Take us home? Sincerely Yours"

Cthulhu

Cthulhu is the ultimate harbinger of death and despair. By using Amber's pattern, (This is my only connection to her.) I have created a fiery winged version to keep someone company on Valentine's Day and thereafter.
