When you look snails up on NPR, you'll find a review of The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating; it's the memoir of a sick woman gaining inspiration from a gifted snail. You'll also find an article about adapting a snail shell into "high-tech body armor" and an article about how snails on meth have slightly better memories. I'm doubting Anna knew any of this when she created and shared her snail pattern. I, personally, just thought they were adorable. Still, it is a good reminder that one creature can fulfill a limitless number of purposes.

These snails are being scattered around Boulder during my boyfriend and my last week in Boulder. They have notes
which read, "Hello! My name is _______, and my brother/sister snail moved to Portland, OR without me. Would you keep me company?"
If you're special enough to have found a snail, please tell me about how you found him/her, where s/he's at now, and any interesting details of his/her/your adventure.

I am the proud guardian of one Stu Stewie Stuart. I was at work this morning at the Southern Sun in south Boulder putting up the umbrellas on our patio and I spotted Stu just basking in the morning sun. I decided to snatch him up and bring him home for my cat (she loves toys made out of yarn?). I read the note and decided it would only be fair to respond to the message! Thank you so much, made my morning! Oh, by the way, my cat only like to carry her yarn toys around and sleep on them, so Stu will not be harmed :)

Hi I am india I am 11 years old and my mom found lil lily lilith sitting on a bench looking at bear creek. Lil is so cute and is now sitting on our piano and listening to our music, and I think she is learning how to play ode to joy.
ReplyDelete@ J. Williams - I am so glad Stu made your morning; that was my number one objective. I hope he and your Kitteh become the best of pals.
ReplyDelete@ V. Vidana - Hello, Evee! I hope Pat Patty Patrick has been good company so far. I took lots of care when knitting him. You should check out the pattern I used: http://mochimochiland.com/2008/03/free-pattern-snails-and-slugs/ There are pictures to show you the whole process!
@ L. Crouton - Hey, India. I love imagining Lil play ode to joy! How fantastic! Thank you so much for letting me know she found a good home. I really enjoy learning where my creations go
